So many people say they cannot write but, after this weekend, they may surprise themselves. Who knows, maybe one of you out there could be the next J K Rowling or Phillip Larkin! This weekend is aimed at anyone interested in creative writing, whether you're just starting to put pen to paper, or looking to add depth and atmosphere to your current work. Our instructor for the weekend is Annette Ecuyere who has worked with professional writers, in education, the world of business and commerce, and with those who just love to use words. Annette will share her love of writing with you and take you on a journey of experimentation and exploration to discover ways of using your senses, and emotions, to develop your voice in your writing. You'll be experimenting with different types of writing, including using the senses, rhythm, dialogue, landscape, different roles and points of view, all helping to develop your own style and confidence. You'll also be reading published works to help you recognise different styles so do bring along your favourite piece of writing to share. By the end of the weekend you will have discovered the writer within and be well on the way to your next novel as well as having had a really enjoyable few days in a relaxed and friendly environment.
The weekend takes place at a secluded 16th Century stone farmhouse in the heart of the Welsh countryside with breathtaking views over the Cambrian mountains. This popular retreat is the home of Breakaway Holidays, run by your hosts Barry and Sonya, who'll be looking after you throughout the weekend. They have organised and run events for over twenty years, and have strong ties with Spice, being the ex Birmingham co-ordinators. Barry and Sonya have extended and developed their traditional farmhouse, especially with groups in mind, and their guests can also enjoy the large gardens, sculptures, wild life pools, and eight acres of private grounds. The accommodation is well known to many Spice members for its cosy atmosphere, homemade food and friendly ambience. On arrival on Friday you'll be greeted by a welcoming log fire, tea/coffee, nibbles and homemade cakes. You'll soon be relaxing and getting to know everyone else, plus the cats and dogs. Arrive anytime after 8.00pm, though you're welcome to arrive later if you want to stop on the way for a drink and bite to eat. Wake up on Saturday morning to a wonderful view and the smell of a traditional cooked breakfast, guaranteed to get the creative juices flowing.
The price includes accommodation with full British breakfast, packed lunches, four course evening meal on Saturday and nibbles throughout the weekend. The venue is not licensed, but if you wish you are welcome to bring some drinks for Friday night and to accompany your meal on Saturday evening. Accommodation for the weekend is in comfortable two and three bedded rooms, bed linen is provided, but you will need to bring your own towels.
